## UCC Pitch
- https://lists.ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au/pipermail/committee/2024-September/009367.html
UCC is 50 years old!
We want to hear your anecdotes, see your photos and share your memories. Tell us your war stories! Anything random or funny, we want to hear that too!
Go here to help flesh out UCC's history with your story:
https://hedgedoc.ucc.asn.au/s/0jIaLQv10
But more than that, we also need your help to safeguard the club's future for the next 50 years.
In 2020, UCC almost lost the clubroom, because of a change in Guild Tenancy rules.
Thanks to a herculean effort, the club successfully managed to keep the clubroom, but is now required to justify its existence every three years to keep that space in Cameron Hall. > [note my draft-alice]
While the online world is more important than ever, without a physical presence, UCC's future is potentially at risk.
Documenting UCC's history won't simply be about capturing the historical details of the club, it will also help to establish to external parties how important UCC is for UWA students.
UCC is so much more than just a club!
UCC is a place to come together; an environment to learn new skills; to explore old and new technologies; to further your career, and to find your tribe.
We want to hear what UCC means to you, and what you are up to now.
If you can let us know what you are up to now by going to:
https://hedgedoc.ucc.asn.au/s/0jIaLQv10
## Draft (Alice)
(I have borrowed some of the wording in the existing pitch. This is meant to replace/flesh out the section regarding UCC's tenancy battle. Please let me know if more/less is required or the tone needs to be changed.)
UCC is one of UWA's well-established clubs, and for our 50th anniversary we want to highlight the importance it's history.
In recent years we have seen considerable challenges: 2020 saw the club nearly be evicted from Cameron Hall due to changing Guild Tenancy rules. UCC was deemed unfit for tenancy due to the perception that the clubroom was not necessary for UCC's activities. We were at risk of losing the infrastructure to maintain servers, unique computing set-ups that were a valuable asset to computer science students, and the space to facillitate innovative projects from our club members. Not to mention losing a beloved place of collaboration and community that has been a part of UWA's history for almost half a century.
The disruption of COVID-19 drew out the battle of appealing for tenancy for months, only being officially re-allocated in February 2021. Even now, UCC is required to justify its existence every three years to keep that space in Cameron Hall.
